Staff Profile: Mark Stevens '77

MARK STEVENS ’77 has been a familiar face at Wheaton College for 43 years. When Mark began his studies at Wheaton in 1973, he also began working as an electrician in the Building and Grounds Department. He worked part-time until graduation in 1977, and was hired as a full-time employee in 1980. He’s worked at the College ever since.

Mark competed in powerlifting from 1973 to 2009. He and his wife, Charlene Long Stevens ’92, now coach FXD Powerlifting, a team of Wheaton students and alumni who have set state, national, and world records at powerlifting competitions in the Chicago area. Additionally, Mark rides Harley Davidson motorcycles. Few can claim they’ve driven a motorcycle to the Sturgis Black Hills Motorcycle Rally with Chaplain Emeritus Stephen Kellough ’70 (“Chappy K”), but Mark did so in 2003.

Wheaton College is also where Mark met his wife, Charlene. Together they have ten-year-old twins, Allie and Will, whom they homeschool. At work and at home Mark seeks to live out the truth of Ephesians 4:32 (KJV): “And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.”
