CANDICE EISENHAUER sees a fair amount of busy students in her office. As director of health professions, she helps navigate the intricate processes of prerequisites and professional school applications for hundreds of undergraduates preparing for careers in healthcare. Her conversations with students allow them to see the process clearly and take next steps.
Candice also encourages them to hold desires open-handedly. She hopes, by the time they graduate, “they’re not so focused on the way they think it has to be or comparing themselves to their fellow students in terms of timing.”
Two years into the job, Candice plans to build more community and alumni partnerships to aid students in exploring the many options in healthcare—not just medicine and nursing—and foster awareness of global health issues.
Ultimately, her goal is to walk alongside students through listening, celebrating a success, or even sitting with disappointment. When students say they feel better after a conversation, Candice says that is “insanely rewarding.”
“When you live with the ‘maybe’ or ‘not now’ from God, you learn to trust the Lord and his character in new ways that you wouldn’t have otherwise,” Candice says.
