Faculty Awards and Appointments

DR. JOHN WALTON M.A. ’75, professor of Old Testament, was general editor for the Old Testament section of the NIV Cultural Backgrounds Study Bible (Zondervan, 2016), which was recognized as a 2017 Christian Book Award winner (Bibles division) by the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association (ECPA).

DR. SHAWN OKPEBHOLO, associate professor of music, received The Adams- Owens Composition Prize from the African American Art Song Alliance. He also received first place in the Flute New Music Consortium Composition Competition for his composition “On a Poem by Miho Nonaka: Harvard Square.” The solo flute piece was inspired by Dr. Okpebholo’s friend and colleague Dr. Miho Nonaka, associate professor of English.

DR. AMY PEELER, associate professor of New Testament, has been awarded a Senior Research fellowship at the Logos Institute, University of St. Andrews, for her 2018 sabbatical. Dr. Peeler’s research focuses on the subject of the personhood of God, specifically the relationship between Father and Son, and the ramifications of this relationship for understanding the Holy Spirit, Mary the mother of Jesus, and believers’ relationship with God and with others.

DR. MARK TALBOT, associate professor of philosophy, has been recognized as the first Christian Scholars’ Fund (CSF) Scholar. CSF provides him with release time from his normal teaching load so he can complete a book titled When the Stars Disappear: Understanding and Coping with Our Suffering (Crossway, forthcoming).

DR. LAURA MEITZNER YODER HAS BEEN APPOINTED TO THE NEWLY ESTABLISHED JOHN STOTT ENDOWED CHAIR OF HUMAN NEEDS AND GLOBAL RESOURCES, EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2017
